Marriene Langton Principal/Tumuaki
Tēnā koutou e te whanau. This is my 16th year as tumuaki of our lovely kura. I am one-eyed when it comes to providing the very best education for all of our tamariki, strong connections to whanau and applying attachment theory so every child has a champion adult at our school who believes in them unconditionally. I just can’t see past it. Our kaiako and kaiawhina go the extra 50 miles to give our children the best chances to succeed. My family is number one. After 20 years of camping holidays in Kaiteriteri, Graham and I are recidivist “glampers “ and ready for new adventures in our latest caravan. It’s brilliant when our family joins us too.

May The Fourth Be With You

There's no sign of alien invaders or spaceships. In fact it's a quiet day on Planet TAKWSS. I couldn't believe only an hour had passed since school started this morning. I fear we will all look like Jabba when this is over. Even my bike riding wont help. I found some of Lisa-Maree's baking in the fridge and Bill and I have decided that we are really hungry....again.
Jabba the Hutt quotes from Star Wars and Jedi

Jabba the Hutt

'Jabba Desilijic Tiure'
  • I will not give up my favorite decoration. I like Captain Solo where he is.
  • This Bounty Hunter is my kind of scum, fearless and inventive.
  • You weak minded fool! He’s using an old Jedi mind trick.
  • There will be no bargain, young Jedi. I shall enjoy watching you die.
  • You will soon learn to appreciate me
  • Bring me Solo and the Wookiee. They will all suffer for this outrage!
I've just been around the classes on May 4th and watched some of the children doing Star Wars Yoga. Nothing like it on a day like today.

"I don't want any of your ghost chips!"

Schools without children, staff and whanau are like the Marie Celeste. It feels odd to be here with no noise, laughter, running and chatter. we miss everyone so much and cant wait to be back together with you.
My congratulations to all of our staff who have made the lockdown connection and learning fun and worthwhile. Our staff are exceptional and we are so proud of them and how they have gone out of their way to make this work for the children.
We miss you kids.
Bring on the school bell for us to reopen and be back.
I've been watching some of the antics that students have been up to, including pranking their teachers while they are on Zoom. I love it. Teachers need to be smarter than the average bear to outwit the children.

Come home soon to our empty, quiet nest. We miss you all.

Lisa-Maree Nakon makes the staff goodies to help make the day go well. She includes lovely little notes and cheery greetings.

This baking is divine. Believe me. Thanks Lisa-Maree.

School leaders

Mmmmm.  We managed to get one assembly in  before the world as we know it changed, and announce our school leaders. Talk about a luke warm time of celebration for them. When we get back to being a school community they will get into their leadership training and raising their profile in the school. It's not easy being a leader and it's really tough as a child to take on that challenge. We don't expect perfection. We were hoping that Ellie could have launched into the training programme with the help of Amy Schmit from CrossOver Trust. This will happen even if later than we had planned.
Congratulations to each of the children. They deserve to be recognized as leaders at Te Ara Koropiko West Spreydon School.
