Gold Awards Two Years Running

Our beautiful Hangi Garden entry was a Gold Award winner at the Oderings School Gardens' Competition held in conjunction with the Christchurch Horticulutral Society.
Dan Rutherford who is a landscaper and Gold Medal winner in many prestigious Garden Shows was such a fantastic adjudicator. His narrative about the individual entries was cleverly informed and gave respect and understanding to every entry.
As he talked about ours I was convinced that we would earn a Gold Award and by golly we did.
I am so proud of Bill, Trish, Janice and the children who put in so much creativity and work to make this such an ourstanding contribution to the story of our school.
It is the joy of something like this that makes being a principal such a privilege.

 

Basketball The Beautiful Ball Game

Whaea Maata and I get to see all of the great things that our teachers and parents organise. This week it was the two after school basket ball teams. The A Grade Team have some magic. They've got game. I started to write individual names in this space and then looked at the pics and realized that the team operates as aunit. They definitely have individual talents but they know hiow to work as a team.
The team led by Cath have improved every week and it is very special to see the determination and understanding of the game develop.
We are so proud of you West Spreydon School.

IT SeeSaw

Jared held a parnt info meeting to assist parents to connect to Seesaw.This is proving to be a fantastic, easy peasy way for parents to connect with their child's learning via their cellphones, iPads etc.
Jared is a good lad and makes the use of technology as easy as  making a cuppa.

 

Cycle Safe 2016

It's that time again when all great children blow the cobwebs off the  bike seat, check their helmets and try desperately to remember what it means to show care and common sense on the road. We know that developmentally the majority of children do not have the skills, judgement or co-ordination to be riding bikes on the road until they are about 10.
The cycle safe team go over the balance and co-ordination skills and decision making with the children before they are prepared to let them near the road. It's still very hit and miss and doesn't take into account driver inattention and error.
Lets keep our children safe on the roads. Talk to your child about the dangers as well as the joys of being a bike rider.
