13 days out from this major event we thought that we would have to pull the plug and there was a dark cloud of gloom and disappointment over our little heads in our beautiful kura. Enter Dylan, Roy and Rik who strolled in all smiles to offer to dig the hole and lay down a hangi to show manaaki to our community.
It was the best kai ever. Everything was beautifully cooked and we had heaps of options for vegetarians. Thank you, Thank you, thank you to all of the helpers and volunteers, an ex student and so many others who made this event such a success. Thank you to our kaiako and kaiāwhina who gave up many, many hours to make this a possibility, especially at the 13th hour.
The steamed puddings were divine. They are my favourite.
We use the prep time to teach our tamariki the tikanga of a Te Ara Koropiko hangi.
Despite the weather it was a wonderful night, where our staff served their community, with generosity and aroha. We didn't have our planned mihi whakatau to welcome new tamariki and their whanau because of the weather. It poured but stayed fine long enough for us to welcome everyone.! We served kai in the hall and everyone ate inside the learning spaces. The down side is that the staff didn't get a chance to mix and mingle with the whanau and community. I can't wait for next year.
