Marriene Langton Principal/Tumuaki
Tēnā koutou e te whanau. This is my 16th year as tumuaki of our lovely kura. I am one-eyed when it comes to providing the very best education for all of our tamariki, strong connections to whanau and applying attachment theory so every child has a champion adult at our school who believes in them unconditionally. I just can’t see past it. Our kaiako and kaiawhina go the extra 50 miles to give our children the best chances to succeed. My family is number one. After 20 years of camping holidays in Kaiteriteri, Graham and I are recidivist “glampers “ and ready for new adventures in our latest caravan. It’s brilliant when our family joins us too.

Athletics Day

We know we have a spectacular community when we see the support for our tamariki on special days like Athletic sports. Many parents and whanau take time off work to be there to watch and encourage their children. These are life memories for our children and they set the scene for the future. They will remember that mum, dad, aunties and uncles and grandparents were there for them.

It's always fantastic to see the champions take on new personal bests and win their events. It's heartwarming to see the children who are not naturally strong in athletics, give everything a go. One parent commented on how she listened to the children chanting encouragement to a champion high jumper and then the children switched their chant to support someone who clearly found the whole event difficult. There is clear evidence of kindness and recognition of every child's  attempts to give things a go.

Apparently no-one saw my win in the parent teacher race which was held at 5am that morning.

Thank you to our kaiako and kaiawhina who work hard on the day but also give many hours of their time to the organization and setting up of events like this. Brilliant mahi everyone.
