I am not sure if folks realize just how much extra time our kaiako give to our tamariki. I remember my days of organising and running school camps, and the number of nights away from my own children. I got homesick too.
Our Years 4-6 team planned a brilliant year 4 camp. The children found their brave and even the ones who had never spent a night away from mum and dad, had a great time on camp.
It was lovely to see family at the pre-camp dinner. I enjoyed the bbq and the salads and judging by the empty plates, I'm guessing everyone else did too.
There were so many activities and games to play that I don't think the children had time to think about home. I checked with the teachers and most went home on Friday night and slept, and slept and slept.. Charlotte told ne that she had another catch up sleep last night too. It's a huge responsibility to have young children in your care. Last year I thought I was doing Marina a favour by insisting that she place her bed in a side room. I didn't realize that the lights were motion activated and that every time she moved, the lights came on. I admit that I laughed because she looked shattered.
Thanks team and all of the parent helpers who made this such a fantastic success. Pauline, Olivia, Justine, Rachel, and Francisco you are champions to support Glen, Lou, Tamara, Charlotte and Megan and all of the tamariki.
