Hangi

We were able to host another hangi this year. It is a privilege to be able to connect with our local community and share kai and company. Bill Earle and his nephew Mark Hopa and his mate Aaron did a lot of digging and fire tending to get the hangi pit to a temperature hot enough to cook the meat, veges and puddings. This year they were done to perfection. We had pickled pork, venison, beef, pork, lamb and eel. The veges included kumara, pumpkin, potatoes, broccoli and cabbage.
Setting and preparing a hangi takes a lot of hard work. So many volunteers helped by donating food and goods, preparing the meat and vegetables and setting and lifting the food.

It was lovely to see you all there and to enjoy the great company. Thank you to all of the staff who gave up their family time to serve the food and to help with clean up.

Cashmere LCC Leadership Training

Eight of our Year 6 students were chosen to attend a student leadership programme run by Chris Allan and the Joshua Foundation. They joined the top students from other primary schools in our cluster: Addington, Thorrington, Sacred Heart, Cashmere, Somerfield, South Intermediate and us.
The children are given leadership theory and then set a series of tasks and challenges where they are assessed on their ability to communicate, make decisions, listen, collaborate, problem solve, manage time and organize. It's sophisticated stuff and many adults would struggle to complete the tasks with the required skills and commitment.
They had a great time with the children from other schools  and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges.

WSS Playground

The playground building volunteers under the expert eye of Huntley Quinn are on target to complete the playground at the beginning of April. As I look out of my office window I can see the rain pouring down and I wonder!
There has been a small faithful group of volunteers working every weekend. Thank you to all of you. It seems to be the way life is that a small group works for the benefit of everyone. You will be immortalised on a plaque that will be dedicated at the opening of the playground. I know you haven't dome it for the fame and that it's about the children. Thank you thank you.
