Marriene Langton Principal/Tumuaki
Tēnā koutou e te whanau. This is my 16th year as tumuaki of our lovely kura. I am one-eyed when it comes to providing the very best education for all of our tamariki, strong connections to whanau and applying attachment theory so every child has a champion adult at our school who believes in them unconditionally. I just can’t see past it. Our kaiako and kaiawhina go the extra 50 miles to give our children the best chances to succeed. My family is number one. After 20 years of camping holidays in Kaiteriteri, Graham and I are recidivist “glampers “ and ready for new adventures in our latest caravan. It’s brilliant when our family joins us too.

Te Reo for Beginners

Jared and Rochelle have been learning te reo and as part of our partnership with our parents they offered to take a beginners class on Friday after coffee. It's lovely to see the ways in which we develop whanaungatanga and ako in our school. Sharing resources and knowledge means we all benefit.
Thanks Rochelle and Jared. Thank you Stacy for making this part of your community liaison and partnership with us.

Cool Pool For School

It's fun to watch the big machines come and go as the pool gets closer to opening day. I have learnt not to underestimate the power of a community who is determined to claim back, bigger and better, what the earthquakes took away in 2011.

We are on a roll. Does anyone have a spare $200k? We're always open to offers of help, materials or dollars. Thank you to everyone who has invested in our Mission Impossible to make it Mission Nearly There.

Robocup at Aurora Centre

Huge Shout Out to Jared, Tamara, Jude and Natalie for the coaching and support of our children. Their coding and performances were amazing. The Ministry of Education is rolling out a new Technology Curriculum in 2018 and I am pleased to report that our 5 year olds learn coding and that carries through the school to extension groups in coding and robotics. Jared and Tamara run after school and lunch time groups. Sometimes we have ex pupils who act as tutors and coaches..
We spent Saturday at the Aurora Centre for the competition and Maata bought us all an ice cream sandwich!!!!!!!!!!!!! YThat took me straight back to my childhood in Naenae and hot summer days at the Naenae Olympic Pool. It was never complete without the Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sign Language Parent Learning Session after Friday Coffee.

We have had two sessions with Stacy and     to help us to learn sign language so that we can communicate with deaf students and their parents. There were so many laughs and many challenges. My hands just would not go where they were meant to. As always the parents were quick off the mark and had mastered many of the signs while I was still trying to get the camera out of the bag.

Jane's Graduation to Fully Registered Teacher.

In the midst of a busy week it was so lovely to take the time to celebrate Whaea Jane's graduation to a Fully Registered Teacher after her 2 year support programme. Thank you to the Social Club who made this such a special event for Jane. We are very proud of Whaea Jane and the hard work she has committed to to meet the criteria. Yeah Jane.
