Marriene Langton Principal/Tumuaki
Tēnā koutou e te whanau. This is my 16th year as tumuaki of our lovely kura. I am one-eyed when it comes to providing the very best education for all of our tamariki, strong connections to whanau and applying attachment theory so every child has a champion adult at our school who believes in them unconditionally. I just can’t see past it. Our kaiako and kaiawhina go the extra 50 miles to give our children the best chances to succeed. My family is number one. After 20 years of camping holidays in Kaiteriteri, Graham and I are recidivist “glampers “ and ready for new adventures in our latest caravan. It’s brilliant when our family joins us too.

Teacher Only Day

We started the day with some fun just to let the tension go.

We had a tin foil hat competition. Sadly I didn't win.

Sadly the tin foil hats did nothing except give us a good giggle.

First Ever Duathlon and Last Day of Term

When I  have the privilege of working with some of the most dedicated staff I have ever worked with, I should never be surprised by the lengths they will go to to make school fun for our tamariki. Today the sun is shining, but it's shining from the inside out too as I can hear the sounds of laughter from all around the school.

Libby has revived our houses, the house leaders/school leaders had their first ever public profile, the jump jam group performed and everyone is dressed in their house colours. There was such a good feeling as teams created house chants and flags and competed against each other. I heard the private asides from staff with in house jokes. Libby who I shall not name, walked over to a rival teacher and said, "Mmm. Did you make up that chant as you walked over?"

At the conclusion of the chant off, the same naughty teacher looked at her colleagues and said, "Yeah well, it's pretty clear that we won that one."

The duathlon really was an endurance event. So much planning went into configuring the course and there were plenty of turns and twists, especially in the bike course. The children twenty who competed had to push hard to get through the exhaustion barriers. It was a real tough out. Renēe Cox led the way throughout the event and finished a clear first.  She didn't seem too out of breath either and reminded me so much of her older brother Ethan, who would complete the cross country and then look as if he had been on a casual stroll.

Special thanks to Chrissie, Laura and Pauline who have prepared a sausage and iceblock for all of the children to celebrate the end of a Covid crazy term where everyone has  learned new things,  and achieved success.

Happy holidays to all of our children and staff
