A small group of children were chosen to be recipients of brand new bikes. They were built as part of a Meridian business leadership challenge day for the company and then presented to the children. It was a big surprise to the business leaders that real children were there to receive the bikes. The children were taken to lunch at The Tannery with the business leaders and treated to lovely food and company.
Thank you so much for the generous kindness of Meridian and the leaders who made such a special contribution to the children.

Welcome back to a new year in our lovely kura. Our goal is to be a locally based school that partners with and is supported by our local community. Everyone who knows us and the last 2 decades of the school's history remarks on the exceptional local community who are a central point for our development and growth. The community is changing in terms of housing and we are now part of the intensive housing projects that have developed across Christchurch City since 2011. We thrive on our close relationships with whanau and local organisations who want to be a part of our journey as a school. Generosity is the key word that we see in action every day to make life better for our tamariki. We do have high expectations for learning and behaviour. Our achievement data over the past few years has been amazing and this is a direct reflection on the relentless work of our kaiako to deliver great teaching programmes every day. Our teachers work closely together and they cross check planning and data. That's why we made it to the Gazette in 2024. We are child development/attachment based and our staff is well trained in how children's brains develop and how we can build amazing relationships with the children in our care. There's a lot of laughter and fun in the classrooms (and in our office with The Fab Five) every day . Please make a point of stopping for great coffee on Friday mornings and take the time to connect with other parents. Haere mai. Welcome to our little corner of paradise

School Cross Country
As always the children and staff do so well to prepare for this gruelling event. It's not my idea of fun and I know it is a very big challenge for many children. It was so lovely to see the ways in which the children cheered on their classmates who were determined to complete the course, even though it was such a tough race.

West Spreydon School Student Leaders
It is our pleasure to introduce our school leaders for 2017.
The teachers take this job seriously as we look at a variety of situations where we can see the children in operation. The leaders are children first and it is our responsibility to grow them into their leadership jobs. Lucy takes the lead in training and leading our student leaders.
Congratulations everyone.

Oderings/Horticultural Society School Garden Competition Gold Award
For the last three years Janice, Bill and Trish have led the charge to enter our school in this competition. Three entries; THREE GOLD AWARDS.
The judge who does the actual announcements of the awards is a professional garden designer and landscaper. He judges at Chelsea Garden Show, Ellerslie Garden Show and Singapore Gardens. He uses the same criteria when he looks at all of the elements of each school garden.
He takes the time to read every schools submission and compares that to the final product. There is a copy of his talk linked to the school website.
Congratulations everyone.
