Janice Krammer has organized two more sessions this term. As parents come in for their Friday morning coffee they are encouraged to stay for a parent education session which Janice leads. In the past two weeks she has led sessions on Reading and Maths. This followed on from the successful session she took on Phonics.
About eleven parents stay in each session along with their pre-schoolers.
Janice carefully plans each session so that parents can learn how different strategies or skills are taught in our school. This helps our parents to be able to support their children in their learning at home. Our goal is to create a school where parents and the staff have joint ownership and responsibility for high achievement of all students at West Spreydon School. he old saying of "It takes a community to raise a child," is absolutely at the heart of how we want to operate at our school.
Ruth Major and Cath Pratten volunteer to make the fantastic coffee every Friday morning. They are part of the team at West Spreydon School who are important links in the connections we are making with our families and community. There's a danger that schools can appear to be unwelcoming and unfriendly places unless families are connected to the local community. We want to be at the heart of our local community and to be a vital part of the future of our community as we acknowledge the past.
