Marriene Langton Principal/Tumuaki
Tēnā koutou e te whanau. This is my 16th year as tumuaki of our lovely kura. I am one-eyed when it comes to providing the very best education for all of our tamariki, strong connections to whanau and applying attachment theory so every child has a champion adult at our school who believes in them unconditionally. I just can’t see past it. Our kaiako and kaiawhina go the extra 50 miles to give our children the best chances to succeed. My family is number one. After 20 years of camping holidays in Kaiteriteri, Graham and I are recidivist “glampers “ and ready for new adventures in our latest caravan. It’s brilliant when our family joins us too.

School Leaders Development and Challenge Day

Jude runs an amazing programme that provides a wide range of physical and critical thinking challenges. The teachers  closely observe the students and take detailed notes on things like: ability to co-operate, share ideas, take a leadership role, listen to others, include others, work with the weakest team member, evaluate, reflect, accept advice, cope with failure and frustration and determination to complete a task. They gather all of the information from other observations and choose the students who in these situations show the traits of potential leadership. I was, as always thrilled to see some of the children who gave up easily with the first tasks, come back into focus with renewed determination. There was so much noise and laughter. The wettest challenges were at the end of the day, which is just as well because everyone was saturated.
Thanks Harakeke Team for the opportunities you open up for our children.
