Tēnā koutou e te whanau. This is my 16th year as tumuaki of our lovely kura. I am one-eyed when it comes to providing the very best education for all of our tamariki, strong connections to whanau and applying attachment theory so every child has a champion adult at our school who believes in them unconditionally. I just can’t see past it. Our kaiako and kaiawhina go the extra 50 miles to give our children the best chances to succeed. My family is number one. After 20 years of camping holidays in Kaiteriteri, Graham and I are recidivist “glampers “ and ready for new adventures in our latest caravan. It’s brilliant when our family joins us too.

Cross Country 2021

Megan and the dream team for sports and activity in our school organised a brilliant cross country event today. We ask a lot of our teachers and it always thrills me to see their willingness to go the extra 10kms for the children. Our staff is very special and i can say that from the perspective of having taught in 14 schools.

Cath Pratten started a running group before school each week and we saw the benefits of fitness and endurance in several of the children. Some children really struggled with fitness and being able to complete the race even after the first lap. Most dug deep and regathered their strength to push on. It was lovely to see so many finish the whole race, or at least make a good attempt to do as much as they could. I always feel a little sad about  the number of children who take a "sickie" on sports days. Our job is to encourage courage by supporting children to overcome their feears and give things a go. Enabling children to opt out is a disservice. Lets work together to help our children to be brave and to tackle things that they think are hard

We have some incredibly talented sports people in our school and with encouragement those children will go on to bigger and better. Man that makes me feel proud. Well done parents, grandparents, whanau for being a wonderful support for your tamariki. They will remember you turning up to cheer them on.
